Beginning in 1979, a magazine was published by a group of men and women that were disgusted with Guns and Ammo and other firearms magazines that tested specially prepared firearms. These hardy souls went out and purchased hundreds of handguns and thousands of rounds of ammunition over the counter and actually published the real results of hundreds of hours of testing.
